Girgit Studios creates Danone TVC
Danone, the world’s no. 1 fresh dairy company launched a new range of dairy products for kids in India. Fundooz, the superhero kid is the brand mascot for the range of products. Girgit Studios created the first set of TVCs for Fundooz Chuski and Fundooz Flavoured Yoghurt that was aired nationally across the kids channels like POGO, Cartoon Network, Disney, Nick and Hungama.

The Fundooz Chuski TVC was conceptualized by Impact Communications together with Girgits and the Fundooz brand team from Danone, keeping primary and secondary school kids as the target audience with an average age of 8yrs. The concept highlights the irresistible taste of the drink, for which all kids get desperate to grab hold of the last pack that’s left in their school canteen. The ad establishes the drink to be the choice of the smartest kids, shown skating on boards (Skateboard being the flying prop of Superhero Fundooz). The TVC also sends a subtle message of sharing with your friends. The TVC was produced mixing both 2D and 3D animation techniques. Girgits love to mix mediums in animation owing to their talented team of animators who love to experiment and master multiple mediums of animation. Keeping the stylization of the pre-established Fundooz kid character, the characters in the TVC were animated in 2D, while a 3D space was created using the 2D art elements. The Chuski packshots and skate boards were animated in 3D and composited. Orange is the Fundooz brand colour which was overplayed in the entire ad to influence the audience’s subconscious.

A team of 13 artist and animators worked on the production that took about a month and a half to be ready for airing. Quite some study went into action analysis of skateboarders as the animation team viewed and internalised the weight balancing, hand and body gestures and stunts done by them. Yet a lot of additions in character acting came spontaneously. More than the pre-planned actions of the characters...their reactions were fun to crack and animate. Adding those small nuances like the flying spectacle of the canteen kaka, the ‘Oh shit’ reaction of the sardar kid, squirrel and birds in the background actually made the animation more interesting for the kids to watch.
