Bangalore, India — October 10, 2014 – In a year dominated by superhero films based on Stan Lee’s co-creations including, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” “Captain America The Winter Soldier” and “X-Men Days of Future Past,” the legendary creator is now looking at India with aspirations to make his first Bollywood film.
Graphic India, India’s leading character entertainment company, and Lee’s POW! Entertainment launched “Chakra The Invincible,” last year as a kids animated franchise. The hero built a worldwide following through animation on Cartoon Network India and a digital mobile series launched on Rovio’s ToonsTV through the Angry Birds game - resulting in millions of views for the Indian superhero.
Lee and his producing partners, Gill Champion from POW! Entertainment and Sharad Devarajan, CEO of Graphic India, have now been meeting with leading Bollywood directors, producers and writers to adapt “Chakra The Invincible” into his first Bollywood film – with a grown-up version of the character tackling his arch-enemy, Boss Yama, against the spectacular backdrop of Mumbai.
"I’ve always been a fan of Bollywood films and I'm really excited about launching Chakra the Invincible as my first Bollywood superhero movie,” commented Stan Lee, Chief Creative Officer at POW! Entertainment. “We’ve set up some great meetings already with some of the most amazingly talented actors and directors in Indian cinema and I have no doubt that these individuals will help make the Chakra film a massive hit in India and around the globe."
“We have always been proud of our global fan base and the reception for the animated Chakra series has been overwhelming,” says Gill Champion, President and CEO of POW! Entertainment. “We could not be more excited about the prospect of bringing a real-life Chakra film to fans everywhere on the big screen!”
Stan Lee revealed today the first set of concept images of the new older-version of the character to his millions of social media followers.
“Characters that Stan Lee has co-created, have done over $2 Billion in the global box office just in year 2014 alone,” commented Graphic’s Co-Founder & CEO, Sharad Devarajan. “The opportunity to bring Stan’s unique style of superhero storytelling to Indian cinema is something any creator would love to collaborate with him on. We have been overwhelmed by the interest and fan base Stan has in India, especially amongst the creative community of Bollywood.”
