Art has the power to inspire, but what inspires art?

Buoyed by this very question ‘The Good Artist of Pune’ movement, initiated by Ms. Shraddha Borawake, a renowned photographer, has over the last three years endeavoured to provide a progressive platform for expression and exchange of art. This movement which has been instrumental in bringing talented artists from all spheres, be it paintings, frescos, glass art, sculpture, etc. has also led to a far better and more meaningful understanding of the significant needs of the art community in the city. GAP is an open network that connects artists and their ideas through a series of Co [Lab]’s enabling them to not just experience and understand grammar but to also experiment, innovate and express newer languages, conversations through mediums and forms, and progression of art itself.

To achieve its goals GAP has initiated several activities, one of which is a Co [Lab]. GAP Co [Lab] is an initiative where International and Local artists from different disciplines are coming together on one platform. International artists like Parris Jaru and Kiritin Beyer will be visiting Pune to be a part of the activity, while some of the local artists like Snehal Dutt, Ruby Jhunjhunwala, Varun Venkit and other artists from different art disciplines like painters, photographers, film makers, potters, writers, poets, sculptors, inventors, musicians and traditional art forms will be part of this step towards a change.

The focus of GAP is to enrich Pune’s rich artistic foundation amply evident from its native culture and heritage. Shraddha Borawake highlights “GAP brings together artists under one platform encouraging them to create cutting-edge works through experimentation.

“Pune has a lot of potential and is ideally placed to become the hub for progressive art in India, it just needs a little prodding and coaxing,” added Shraddha. Apart from Shraddha Borawake there is a core team, made up of artists from various disciplines, which is very actively involved in GAP, ardently taking it towards this collective objective.

GAP believes that everybody is an artist and so it is an open networking platform for all, with no commercial pressure, as it is run By Art for Art.
