Bangalore Comic Con 2014 created a Colorful blend of Indian and International Pop Culture experiences

Bangalore, September 14’ 2014 – The Bangalore Comic Con organized by Comic Con India received accolades from participants and fans from across all age groups. Bangalore Comic Con 2014  was the first event organised post the joint venture announced between Comic Con India and Reed Exhibitions. The 3 day fest took place at White Orchid Convention Centre from September 12-14’ 2014. Spread across 40000 Sq foot of area, Bengaluru witnessed its biggest pop culture event of the year!

Some of the best International Authors and Artists came especially for this 3 day convention. Dan Parent, an American comic book artist and writer best known for his work for Archies Comics; David Lloyd, a British comics artist best known as the illustrator of the story V for Vendetta; Rob-Denbleykar, Co-Creater of Cyanide and Happiness; Peter Kruper, an American cartoonist and illustrator, Best known for his work in Spy vs. Spy series; were seen attending and taking special sessions at Bangalore Comic Con.

Bangalore Comic Con 2014 hosted one of its kind,  interactive and experiential 50 Hours of Programming through panels, launches, gaming, video hangouts and more. Also, the one and only Neil Gaiman, an English author of short fiction, novel, comic books, graphic novels, audio theatre and films, had an exclusive live chat (via satellite) with the fans. Neil is famous for his comic book series The Sandman and novels Stardust, American Gods, Coraline, and The Graveyard Book. He has won numerous awards, including the Hugo, Nebula, and Bram Stoker awards, as well as the Newbery and Carnegie medals.

Fans who come dressed as their favorite comics characters always steal the show. And this year as always, COSPLAYERS won tons of prizes under these 5 categories created to increase one’s chances of winning gifts. Each day, one winner was chosen from each of five categories:

1. Comic book/graphic novel

2. Animated Series/Movie

3. Manga/Anime

4. Sci-Fi/Fantasy

5. Gaming

All 3 days, One lucky winner out of the chosen 5 won A ticket to CHICAGO COMIC & ENTERTAINMENT EXPO 2015 and an XBOX ONE!

“It was yet another exciting year in Bangalore, the fans were amazing and made our show stellar! We'll be back next year with tons more, the work has already begun on Bangalore Comic Con 2015!”, shared Jatin Varma, Founder, Comic Con  India.

Increased presence of International content was a highlight at this convention. There were International Exhibitors like Cyanide & Happiness, a famous webcomic and  3D Sense Animation, a leading digital arts school in Asia, bringing international content from all across the globe, especially for Bangalore.

With just around a year left for Star Wars: Episode VII (Releasing in December 2015); One of the major highlight of the event was Star Wars Experiential Zone. It was the first of its kind experience zone created to enthrall the fan boys. The Star Wars zone was designed to resemble the bridge of a star destroyer with snazzy and futuristic display, equipped with Star Wars weapons, character figurines and inspired art.  Padawans could feel the Force with the iconic lightsabers and fans seemed really happy and excited getting themselves clicked as the experience was like never before! Star Wars enthusiasts also won limited edition collectible posters of Star Wars and Marvel.  

Fans got a chance to own their favourite Star Wars character inspired merchandise at Bangalore Comic Con. At the convention, Scholastic launched a wide range of books for adults as well as kids, and Jasmine Apparels launched a range of Star Wars and Marvel inspired caps. Popular online fashion brand, Myntra also launched an elaborate range of Star Wars t-shirts.

Amar Chitra Katha, the pioneers in India for comic books and illustrated works of literature, had kept amazing surprises for their fans. ACK had created one of the largest pavilions ever built in India’s popular culture conventions. They had photobooth, Quizzes, Puppeteers, Storytelling competitions and much more at Bangalore Comic Con .

Bangalore Comic Con 2014 saw over 20 exclusive book launches.  The most awaited Ravanayan Finale - Part 2 & Aghori - Issue 11 got launched by Holy Cow Entertainment and Campfire launched The Kaurava Empire. Odayan II - Yuddham was launched by Pop Culture Publishing.  Rumi by Sufi Comics and The Caravan Prequel were amongst the other interesting launches at the convention.

For the tech enthusiasts, BCC had many surprises. At the convention, Microsoft conducted its first audience experience of the XBOX ONE before its official launch.  Urban Vikings launched their Latest Game, Life Cycle and Wacom launched the Cintiq Companion - First PC Tablet From Wacom For Designers.

Merchandise was a great hit too. Awesome Anime & Manga Merch from Japanese Merchandiser IINE Toys, along with the best and most exclusive International merchandise was seen brought in from across the globe. Also, there were exclusive Indian merchandisers including Kook N Keech by Myntra, Wacom, Bombay Merch, Collectors Heritage, Hysteria, Chimp, Chumbak, Keep Chilling, Wear Your Opinion, Planet Superheroes, Lazy Ninja, Graphicurry, Carmocrat and lots more!!

The three day fest saw some awesome merchandise launches at the convention. Atma Studios launched their Brand, Lat Lakar Along With The Brand Merchandise, whereas Tinkle did the launch Of Tinkle Character Wobble Heads and Vimanika Unveiled The Vishnu Figurine, Polos & Tees.

The main participants of Bangalore Comic Con 2014 were Amar Chitra Katha, Orange Radius, Abhijeet Kini, Pop Culture Publishing, Random House, Sufi Comics, Campfire Graphic Novel, Holy Cow Entertainment, HarperCollins Publishers,Vimanika Comics, Raj Comics, Scholastic India, Mario Gallery, Viz Media (Simon & Schuster India), Westland and more!!

Comic Con India (CCI) takes a big leap as they recently announced a joint venture with Reed Exhibitions; part of the FTSE listed Reed Elsevier Group, to grow the pop culture space in India and bring world class events to Indian fans. The Comic Con India team will now work closely with the ‘ReedPOP’ division of Reed Exhibitions, the largest producer of pop culture events in the world.

With this JV in place, CCI enters the burgeoning ReedPOP portfolio of pop culture events which includes New York Comic Con, PAX, the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, Oz Comic-Con, Singapore Toy, Gaming & Comics Convention and Star Wars Celebration among many others.
