The Vancouver-based studio Pixar Canada will now be moving to California. The Studio is going weak in the city where others like Sony’s Canadian Animation facility is going strong with animations in The Hotel Transylvania and The Smurfs 2.
The 20,000-square-foot animation studio in downtown Vancouver created short films based on Pixar features and tested out new ideas, including films such as Air Mater, Small Fry and Partysaurus Rex.
“A decision was made to refocus operations and resources under the one roof,” Barb Matheson, a spokesman for Disney, told Canadian news site The Province. “Staff were just told today. Not great news, obviously. It was just a refocussing of efforts and resources to the one facility.”
Around 100 animators will lose jobs because of this shift!
“Pixar Canada will cease operations immediately”, said Wiggum and he would not comment on speculation that pixar Canada will open shop elsewhere in Canada in provinces with better tax incentives such as Ontario and Quebec, nor would he say whether the cost of operating in Vancouver was a part of the reason Pixar is leaving B.C.
We can now only hope for the 100 animators and Pixar to start their Work soon and produce astounding works!
