The School of Computer Science from Faculty of Technology & Sciences of Lovely Professional University organised two-day Zonal round of International Robotics Challenge (IRC) Workshop. Similar workshops are also being conducted in 9 International Zonal Centers including Australia, USA, Thailand, Indonesia, UAE, Egypt, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka & Iran. India’s premier leader in Robotics & Embeded Systems- Robosapiens Technology was partner in the said conduction. T

he workshop covered various practical activities which enriched the development of Autonomous Robots, Sensors Array interfacing skills of the participants. Experienced faculty from IIT Bombay & Robosapiens, Mr Tarique Aziz & Mr Aman Gupta had specially visited LPU to guide and motivate the participating students. The IRC workshop aimed to provide a platform to students to further prove their mettle amongst the International teams. The participants to this were from the LPU Schools of Computer Science Engineering, Electronics & Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Many other institutes also participated in the event. The two days of the event saw a theoretical workshop followed by practical competitions among participants of twelve teams comprised of 5 members each.   Students got a hand on experience of Micro-controller programming on Robosapiens iBot. They also had understanding of various gripping and sliding mechanisms, various nuances of Grid solving techniques along with the theoretical sessions. The workshop was conducted in consonance with 9 other zonal centers across India. Illustrative, the winners from each of the ten zonal centers will further compete for the national level final at IIT Bombay TECHFEST, to be held on 3 - 5 January, 2013.   Winners from here will be given golden opportunity to compete with other winners from across the globe. Winners will be awarded with handsome cash prizes and valuable certificates & coveted citations.

Congratulating the participants, LPU Vice Chancellor, Dr Ramesh Kanwar expressed his gladness: “We are happy to note that our promising students availed of this international level opportunity.  By participating in the tough competition, they have expanded their horizons by understanding, designing and programming robot models to have first-hand experience of the robot world.” He added: “After showing their worth at the zonal level our students will compete at national and international level to further win laurels for their alma-mater.” He also informed that the students, from the winning team and other eager ones, will be further prepared to participate in International Robot Olympiad (IRO) to be finally held in Malaysia. On contacting some of the participating students Sanjay Kandpal, Satyendra Shukla, Squib Alam, Rahul Sharma, B Deepika, D Praveen Krishna, Arvinder Kaur, Ankit Paswan; they were of the view that the IRC workshop was a great learning experience towards basics of Robot working, Robot Concepts and related basics of electronic Circuits: "We have certainly learnt novel methods which could not have been possibly learnt from some other dais."
