Bangalore: Tata Elxsi, India’s leading design company, in partnership with 10000 start-ups, an initiative by NASSCOM, organised a design boot camp on September 28, 2013, at the Start-up Warehouse in Diamond District. Tata Elxsi contributes to this initiative by supporting selected tech start-ups through its incub@TE program, and extending help to other start-ups through various joint events.
The design boot camp is a carefully designed programme which offers fledgling start-ups the opportunity to learn design thinking — from insights to innovation — hence equipping them with innovative thinking to grow their business. The programme’s aim, through workshops, was to help the participant start-ups understand the fundamental design principles that lead to high-quality designs requiring low implementation effort. It started off with a session by Nick Talbot, global design head, Tata Elxsi, on the 'Importance of design with examples from live projects and its importance to start-ups', followed by sessions on introduction to UX/Interface and HMI design by Satish Patil, chief designer, user experience. Exclusive design-based workshops were also organised for the participants.
Commenting on the importance of design in everyday life, Mr Talbot said, “Tata Elxsi started the Incub@TE program to help start-ups create sustainable businesses. The association with Nasscom’s 10000 start-ups will strengthen the initiative further. Right from insights to innovation, this kind of design boot camp has been planned to offer participants the chance to learn design thinking — a human-centred, prototype-driven process for design that can be applied to product, services and to the business of design.”
Ashok Madaravally, senior manager, NASSCOM, said, “With Bangalore being placed as one among the top 20 influential start-up ecosystems around the world, there is a need to nurture the start-up community, and this can be possible only through a collaborative effort. We are glad that companies like Tata Elxsi are taking the initiative to build a healthy start-up ecosystem.”
