Remember that unforgettable short animation film most of us saw as a child – Ek Titli, Anek Titliyan?  Better know by this immortal song of Sadhna Sargam in 1974, the short film Ek, Anek aur Ekta was a creative masterpiece by Vijaya Mulay and her animation artist Bhimsain.  Ek Titli is herself now visiting AGAFA 2013 at Dilli Haat Pitampura, Delhi on Saturday, 14th December, 2013. Accompanying her will be the tallest Indian animation character of today – the inimitable Chhota Bheem, a creation of Rajiv Chilaka’s Green Gold Animation.  They are being felicitated by the Society for Animation in Delhi (SAID), its first Annual Graphics and Animation Film Awards due that day.

SAID is a non-profit body of independent and voluntary animation artists, registered under the Indian Co-operative Societies’ Act, 1860, since February 2010, which is out to make animation production and viewing meaningful to mature audiences, take cartoons beyond kids and bridge the sources and destinations of animation to give exposure to creative and original animation creations at the local, regional, national and international levels.  Taking its first baby steps to bring round this fledgling industry in this part of the world, SAID has initiated AGAFA 2013 as an annual affair, putting in all that the animator loves – experiential learning in the form of GURUMANTRA, on-the-spot sketching for animation and storyboarding, music, dance, food, meaningfull stalls and an inspiring presence by Vijaya Mulay, fondly called by SAID as the mother of Indian Animation, Rajiv Chilaka, members of the Jury for AGAFA that comprises Suhasini Mulay (noted national award winning film actress); Subodh Lal (creative Guru); Suman Bajaj Kalra (former DDG, Doordarshan); Harsh Borah and Debjani Mukherjee (animation film-makers of international standing); the Chhota Bheem characters, Raj Comics, and Hanvon Pen Tablets.

The event and SAID’s initiative have found tremendous support in voluntary and other organizations that include Flavour of Art (conducting the GURUMANTRA), Anim Dilli with its On-the-Spot Sketching Competition, Animationhelp.in, Animators’ Point, All CG Tutorials, and Animation Galaxy as the Media Partners.  Some animation related institutions have also extended support to SAID’s efforts, namely PIA-ILS, Pune, IIIT-D, Delhi, AKJMCRC, Jamia Millia Islamia (who will perform Paper-Cut Animation and Sand Animation) and various training institutions.  The PANKH Group and Tony and His Band will perform the music and rock shows, while Donald Duck India is expected to put in a surprise entry. The AGAFA 2013 promises to become the FESTIVAL OF ANIMATION IN DELHI – FAD – from its very first appearance on the animation scenario.
