MAAC 24 FPS Awards is an endeavour to recognize animation talent across the globe

Mumbai, Friday, December 6, 2013: Shining spotlight on student animators, independent artists and studio professionals, Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC) – leader in 3D Animation and VFX training in association with the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), announced the results of its 10th 24 FPS Annual International Animation Awards 2013 at The Lalit Intercontinental In Mumbai. MAAC strengthens its association with UNIC for the third time this year. The theme selected for this year’s awards, ‘MY World 2015’ was in support of the United Nation’s mission to bring to the fore, some of the world’s biggest priorities like education, security, food and clothing through creative minds and showcasing such issues through animation on the 24FPS stage to a global audience.  


A prestigious jury panel of industry stalwarts around the world comprising of Shelley Page – DreamWorks, Subhajit Sarkar – Rhythm & Hues, Viral Thakkar – Pixion, Hari Varma - Toonz Animation Pvt Ltd, Merzin Tavaria - Prime Focus, E Suresh - Eeksaurus, Vaibhav Kumaresh – Vaibhav Studio among others participated in the judging process to determine the Finalists and then the Gold, Silver and Bronze 24 FPS Award placements. 

More than 300 submissions from studios and students from nations such as France, Singapore, Canada, China were submitted to the awards this year for consideration in categories including, Best VFX Short Film: Student, Best 3D Animated Short Film: Student, Best 2D Animated Short Film: Student, Best Game Design 2013: Studio/ Professional Category, Best Visual Effects Feature Film 2013: Studio/ Professional Category, Best TVC 2013: Studio/ Professional Category, Best TV Series 2013: Studio/ Professional Category, Best Animated (2D/3D) Short Film 2013: Studio/ Professional, Best Experiential Animation: Student/ Studio/ Professional/ Freelancer, Best Photography (Theme – Life in India): Student/ Professional/ Freelancer. 

UNIC Director Mrs. Kiran Mehra-Kerpelman said that “We have had a fruitful collaboration with MAAC so far – it is wonderful to see young people at MAAC pick up on the themes we set out and create these pithy, striking films on subjects ranging from sustainable energy and HIV/AIDS to discrimination against the girl child, the value of education and tackling poverty. 

Through the 24FPS awards, and the category that we created, we think – and hope that the UN’s messages on these subjects found a wider audience. 

This year, we decided to go with another forward-looking theme that asks people to spell out the kind of world they would like to see. ‘The World We Want’ is a platform created by the United Nations and other partners to highlight people’s voices. And the question being asked is: how do we draw up a global agenda for sustainable development?”


24 FPS Awards were hosted by MAAC to reward the creativity of young and talented animation artists across the globe. Over 1500 animation enthusiasts comprising of students and industry experts from animation fraternity attended the grand awards ceremony. 

Speaking at the event, Mr. Ninad Karpe, MD & CEO, Aptech Ltd. said, “It gives me immense pleasure to see that the 24 FPS Awards have celebrated a decade this year. All the films that participated in the festival were extremely well crafted and executed. I hope that we are able to host these awards with even more grandeur every passing year”.

Spellbound at the successful completion of the event, Mr. Ram Warrier, Vice President at Aptech Ltd and Head of Business, MAAC said, “MAAC has always prided itself on providing world-class quality education in the sector of animation and now visual effects. I’m immensely proud that this year we are celebrating the 10th year of the 24 FPS International Animation Awards. We look forward to showcase the 24 FPS Awards on an even larger scale in the coming years and make them one among the foremost animation awards globally”. 

This year’s award surpassed all expectations with the magnificent show that had various categories for India like Best Animated Short Film – Gold, Best Visual Effects Short Film – Gold etc and few International categories like Best Visual Effects Feature Film 2013 - Studio / Professional, Best Animated Feature (2D/3D) film 2013 - Studio / Professional etc. To address UN theme in the most effective manner and promote it on global platforms, ‘Best of 3D Animation challenge’ and ‘Digital Film Making’ were introduced in the ‘Open’ category for external participants for this year’s awards 

It was a one day festival that had interactive sessions with industry experts, exhibitions and entertaining competitions such as MAAC’s Got Talent, National Level Gaming Tournament, workshops and many more. The event was hosted by the famous Indian TV Sports journalist Ms. Mayanti Langer. Stunning 

Dance performance from ‘Bad Salsa’ by Sumanth and Sonali from a renowned TV show and a stand-up comedy act by Suresh Menon’ captivated the audience.
