AGAFA 2013 – Annual Graphics and Animation Film Awards – has finally been announced by the Society for Animation in Delhi (SAID).  The event to be held at Dilli Haat, Pitampura, Delhi, on 14 December, 2013 is planned as a complete one-day “Festival of Animation in Delhi” (FAD) with a variety of activities lined up for the day.  Beginning with its GURUMANTRA 4 on “Sketching for Animation”, conducted by Flavor of Art, the day-long event will run through an On-the-spot Sketching Competition, conducted by Anim Dilli and the main awards ceremony. The Awards Ceremony is for the Moments of Mementos, and winners of SAID’s 3-in-1 Contest of Digital Painting, Graphic Design and Animation Films, alongside a music and dance show.  Efforts are on to set up stalls for animation lovers and gaming consoles to complete the cycle of gaming and animation, attract young crowds to the festivities and keep the “flavor of animation” in the air.  Entry to the main enclosures is by Special Invitee Passes, for which SAID office is to be contacted.

Chhota Bheem, the most roving animation character in Indian Animation TV serials today, is the lead sponsor of the show, and will be present at the venue in character-mascots, merchandize stalls and an evening presentation. Visitors can meet Chhota Bheem in person.  Voice & Motion Communications and Work4me have also agreed to sponsor part of the show, and others are joining in, in this first ever festival of animation in Delhi by an independent and voluntary animators’ organization - SAID.

A major highlight of the evening will be the presence of Ms. Vijaya Mulay, Mother of Indian Animation (as SAID would like to address her), and maker of the first post-independence animation short “Ek, Anek aur Ekta”, which remains as popular even today as it was at the time of release.  The short film will be screened ahead of the competitive entries.  SAID has announced its First Moment of Memento (MoM) to be conferred on Ms. Vijaya Mulay.  SAID proposes to move a motion to declare the first screening of this film on Doordarshan – 14 December 1974 – as the National Animation Day in India. Chhota Bheem will also be felicitated with a Moment of Memento for being the tallest animation character in Indian Animation TV serials today.

Helping in the efforts to make the presence of animation felt in and around Delhi are five Voluntary Partner Organizations (VPOs) – Flavor of Art, Anim Dilli, Animationhelp.in, Animators’ Point and All CG Tutorials – while Animation Galaxy functions as the Media Partner. Through AGAFA 2013, SAID and the Voluntary Partner Organizations are attempting to build a culture of art in and around Delhi, so that it emerges as a new hub of animation art for India and the world.
